ABSTRACT

Background: The diabetes mellitus disease is a chronically disease that suffered by mostly people

and requires a long period and routine medicinal treatment. The consumption of orally
antidiabetical such as glibenclamid for long period causes unwanted side effect. The Mindi leaves
as one of the traditional medicines has been utilized frequently. The research concerning about the
utilizing of the Mindi leaves intravenously has been conducted but the effect of the utilizing of Mindi
leaves boiled water in accordance with the people's utilizing has not been researched yet.
Objective: This research has the purpose to observe the effect of Mindi leaves (melia azedarach
I.) in decreasing the blood glucose content of the white experimental male mouse that suffered
diabetes.
Method: This research was carried out toward the subject of the white experimental male mouse
(Rattus Norvegicus) number in 25 mousses of 200 - 250 grams weight and 4 months old. The
treatment was divided into 5 groups and each group consists of 5 mousses. The first group was
given standard medicine (glibenclamide) as the positive control, the second group was given the
Mindi leaves boiled water of 0.1 g/ kg weight dosage, the third group was given the Mindi leaves
boiled water of 0.2 g/ kg weight dosage, the fourth group was given the Mindi leaves boiled water
of 0.4 g/ kg weight dosage, and the fifth group was being the negative control (aquadest). The
mousses were made into suffering diabetes by inducting intravenously with streptozocotin of 50
mg/kg weight. The measurement of the blood glucose content was carried out at the day 0.7, 14
and 21 by means of GOD-PAP method (without deproteinisation). The data of measurement was
processed by means of one-way Anova and continued by the Post Hoc Test.
Result: From the Anova analysis result, it was showed that at the day 21 there a significance
difference between the treatment of F output = 24.0145 > F tabel = 2.84 and from the Post Hoc Test it
was found that in group IV that is the treatment of the Mindi leaves boiled water of 0.4 g/kg weight
dosage capable to decrease the blood glucose content significantly (p>0,05). The conclusion of
this research is the giving of the Mindi leaves boiled water of 0.4 g/ kg weight dosage is capable to
decrease the blood glucose content of the white experimental male mouse that suffered diabetes
significantly.
