Background: Gingivitis and periodontitis are most problem in periodontology. Main ethiology
of gingivitis is plaque accumulation. Mouth and theeth health maintance can be done by
mechanically plaque control. Mechanically plaque control by tooth brushing, but it is not
effective enough. By then, an additional chemical therapy is needed by using mouth rinse
which can decrease plaque accumulation. One of them is rinsing with warm salt solution.
Objective: the porpuse of this research are to examine the changing of plaque score, PBI
score and saliva’s pH after rinsing with 2% and 0.9% warm salt solution.
Method: The subject of this research are 40 people with ginggivitis who are divided into 2
groups. The 20 people rinsed with 2% warm warm salt solution and 20 people rinsed with
0.9% warm salt solution. Rinsing is applied twicw a day in 60 seconds each time. Plaque
score, PBI score and saliva’s pH are measured in the 1st day before 4th days after rinsing.
Subjects keep brushing their theeth during that period. Data was analized by General Linier
Model Repeated Measure-Test with 95% reliability.
Result: The statistical result show no significant difference of plaque score, PBI score and
saliva’s pH in groups who taking warm salt solution compare to groups who taking 0.9% warm
