ABSTRACT

 

Background: Garlic (Allium sativum) is a traditional or herbal medicine which has the effect of antifungal. While Ketoconazole is antifungal drug which effective in the treatment of fungi (pityriasis versicolor), which is a superficial fungal infection usually caused by Malassezia furfur. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Garlic 2% with Ketoconazole 2% in In Vitro in inhibiting the growth of Malassezia furfur, as cause of panau (pityriasis versicolor).

 

Objective: To know the difference between the effectiveness of Garlic 2% with Ketoconazole 2% in inhibiting Malassezia furfur cause panau (pityriasis versicolor).

 

Method: This type of experimental design with post-test, in comparing the two treatments that is giving Garlic Ketoconazole 2% and 2% in inhibiting the growth of fungi that cause panau. Data is analyzed using SPSS for Windows 13:00, hypothesis using Chi Square test with significance level p <0.05.

 

Result: The Chi-Square test is obtained p = 0.606, which means there is no significant difference between the effectiveness of Garlic 2% with Ketoconazole 2% to the growth of Malassezia furfur causes of panau (pityriasis versicolor).
