Background: Increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS also increases risk of health staff in services suspect HIV/AIDS patient, especially when universal preacaution is not implemented to all patients.
Objective: This study aims to understand in depth about the behavior description actuating universal precaution of nurses in serving patients with HIV/AIDS suspect at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta.
Method: This study used a qualitative approach with the case method. The subject of the study is consisted of 14 nurses who conduct risk prevention in the Arofah and Marwah Rooms. Triangulation research used the observation and interview with supervisors in Arofah and Marwah Rooms, the management and HIV/AIDS team as a prerequisite for the validity of the study.
Result: The result of this study is not all nurses comply uses APD before and after the action. Enabling factor in the implementation of public awareness of nurses in serving patients suspected of HIV / AIDS is the hospital has adequate facilities in the care of patients suspected of HIV / AIDS, training / refreshing and VCT, there are no rules.
